Patrick Preston
Patrick Preston joined KATU as a senior reporter in May 2011, specializing in coverage of government and politics.
A member of the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), Patrick previously worked for WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio; WBNS-TV in Columbus; KXLY-TV in Spokane, Washington; and WHAG-TV in Hagerstown, Maryland. Before moving to television, he worked for WSVA-AM in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and for the Associated Press Broadcast News Center in Washington, DC.
The recipient of awards from the Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Patrick's assignments have taken him to cover Ground Zero in New York City, the Pentagon, the aftermath of Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina, and the Iraqi War. He received an Emmy award for his work as an embedded reporter in Kuwait and Iraq.
Patrick graduated from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and journalism. Originally from Irvine, California, Patrick has lived in seven states and the District of Columbia, but feels he saved the best for last in Portland, Oregon.
Outside of television news, Patrick also has been a small-business owner. In 2005, Patrick co-founded a regional magazine while establishing the Columbus Young Professionals Club, which is now one of the largest associations of its kind in the nation. Patrick is an avid sports fan and competitor - particularly basketball and tennis.
