Anita Kissée joined the KATU news team in April 2005 and covers local politics and urban issues for KATU News at 4, 5, 6 and 11.

Anita is glad to be back in Portland after graduating from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in May 2009. KATU granted Anita a sabbatical to fulfill her goal of obtaining an M.A. in Political Journalism. As one of the only broadcast students in the new program, she was a Bollinger Fellow, the winner of the prestigious “Rob Sunde Scholarship” and “Brown Award,” and completed her first full-length television documentary. She also holds degrees in Journalism and Mass Communications from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, and spent time studying at American University in Washington, D.C.

Prior to moving to Portland, Anita worked at KFSN in Fresno, California. She covered such high-profile stories as the Governor's recall election, the "Governator's" election and the disappearance of Laci Peterson. But Anita's love of the Northwest developed after working at KTVB in Boise, Idaho. She spent the hot summer of 2000 on the fire-line covering the worst fire season in Idaho history. Anita is a volunteer wildland firefighter and was able to take viewers to the heart of the action. Anita's also worked in San Diego as an anchor for CNN's "Local Headline News," and served as a producer for NBC. Washington, D.C. was home during the 1996 presidential election, as Anita field-produced for C-SPAN.

Anita has been awarded the Edward R. Murrow award, nominated for an Emmy and given several AP and Press Club awards in Oregon and Idaho. When she's not in the newsroom you’ll find Anita walking her pug in the Pearl, riding a bike along the waterfront, scooting around town on her vintage Vespa, or exploring the Cascades with her husband. She also plays the piano, dragon boat races, sews, volunteers with "Dress for Success," and loves to bake pastries almost too gorgeous to eat… almost!
