Craig Birnbach

Craig is the Weekend Sports Anchor for KATU News. Before joining the KATU sports team in 2007, he spent seven years as a sports anchor at WCSC in Charleston, S.C. While in Charleston, he won Associated Press awards for his coverage of the Clemson vs. South Carolina rivalry football game and the Cooper River Bridge Run. Craig’s assignments in Charleston included covering SEC and ACC football, The Masters and the Daytona 500.
 
Craig was born in Long Island, N.Y. and grew up in Matawan, N.J. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in English and Psychology, Craig worked as a photographer/reporter at WCSC for 4 years before moving onto Washington, D.C. In our nation's capital he worked as a communications manager at the world headquarters of Special Olympics before returning to WCSC as a sports anchor in 2000. 
 
Craig enjoys playing sports of all kinds, including basketball and softball. He is an avid reader and a huge New York Yankees, Giants, Knicks and Rangers fan. Craig is thrilled to be living and working in a city with such passionate sports fans.
