Rod Hill

Rod Hill

By (BI) Breanna Burmeister

Rod Hill’s career has taken him from the hurricane seasons of south Texas to the snows of Michigan, the tornado season of the Ohio valley and since 1992 the hard to predict weather of the Pacific Northwest.

Growing up in Missouri, Rod holds a Bachelors degree in Radio/Television Speech Communications from the University of Missouri. While forecasting in Texas, Rod earned his Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University and later was certified by both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. For the past five years Rod has served on the NWA’s Broadcast Certification Committee.

Since moving to Portland, Rod has received six consecutive Emmy nominations and was awarded the prestigious Emmy award for best meteorologist in 1999 and 2002. Rod’s work has also been recognized by the Associated Press, being named best meteorologist in the state of Oregon for the years 2000 and 2003.

When he is not keeping an eye on the sky, Rod enjoys time at home with his two dogs, Caruso and Concerto. The other joys in his life are golf and ballroom dancing. Rod has won numerous awards on the dance floor and travels the country competing in anything from Foxtrot to a little Cha Cha Cha.
