Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of Shiba’s Sweet Spice
  • 2 tablespoon Shiba’s Clarified Butter  (you can find this at Whole Foods or New Seasons)
  • 1½ cup rice flour
  • 1½ cup white flour
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 cups milk or water
  • ½ cup almonds or cashews
  • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • Crisco oil for frying (try in Shiba’s Clarified Butter for great taste).

 

Directions

  • Mix ingredients, except oil, to make a batter.
  • Add dry fruit and/or nuts to the batter (dates, cranberries, raisins, almonds or cashews) for variety as you wish; stir well.
  • Heat the Crisco oil well and carefully place one large spoon full of batter in the hot oil to dip fry.
  • Repeat the process as long as the pan holds.
  • Once both sides are dark brown, it is done.
  • Serve with Chutney and/ or may be eaten with tea or coffee.
