"Kabul Beauty School" Author Pens New Book
Deborah Rodriguez has led an extraordinarily adventurous life. An American expatriate living in Afghanistan, she was determined to immerse herself in the culture and quickly recognized the special need for women to have safe places to convene and talk. A hairdresser by trade, Deborah became a teacher and later co-director of Afghanistan’s first modern beauty school, an experience she detailed in her bestselling memoir, Kabul Beauty School: An American Goes Behind the Veil. While there, she also decided to create a gathering place for the general public and opened a coffee shop in the heart of Kabul. Her experiences in that business endeavor inspired her new book and first work of fiction, A Cup of Friendship.
