Oba Chef: Dining Out in the Northwest

The concept is simple: eat at a locally-owned restaurant to improve the Northwest's economy.  Oba Executive Chef, Scott Neuman, joined us today to explain the Do It NW program (that's short for Dining Out In The Northwest) and to share one of his restaurant's delicious side dishes -- made with local ingredients -- Roasted Potato Salad.

Important things to know about the Dining Out In The Northwest program:

  • By dining at a locally-owned restaurant that is also committed to buying local, it stimulates the local economy: you get a great meal, the restaurateur makes a sale, it provides jobs for the restaurant's staff, which in turn gives them money to put back into the local economy.
  • Dining Out in the Northwest represents not just fine dining restaurants but everything from coffee shops to pizza to family to fine dining: Besaws, Deschutes Brewing, Oba, Laughing Planet Cafe, Pizza Roma, Kettleman’s Bagels, The Ringside and Milo’s City Café to name a few.
  • These restaurants represent the entire state of Oregon as well as Southwest Washington.
  • Dining out in the Northwest supports sustainable agriculture through association with Edible Portland and the Food Alliance.
