Stay Younger Without Surgery

How do you choose to live peacefully with the aging process when the pressure to do just the opposite is overwhelming? Self-esteem coach Laure Redmond, author of Feel Good Naked, joined us to share a few simple ways to age gracefully.

She says aging can be sexy because it brings wisdom, knowledge and chutzpah-- think Frida Kahlo, Steve Martin, Georgia O'Keeffe, Steven Tyler, all women and men who have style, chic, allure and elegance. They didn't submit to any standard of beauty and you shouldn’t either. Here are eight ways to forget the clock and enjoy your one, precious life:

  1. Stop taking on more than you can handle. When asked to take on a task or project, check to be sure you aren’t sacrificing your self-care.
  2. Build confidence by refusing to compare yourself to other women or men of any age.
  3. Say in touch with the sensuality of your body. Dance as often as possible, don’t be critical of yourself and forget what anyone else thinks.
  4. Whiten your teeth--it totally lightens up your face and you will look years younger.
  5. Stop obsessing about your weight. Five extra pounds can make you look healthier, younger and more attractive.
  6. Find ways to handle stress in your everyday life--get active, take a nap and meditate regularly, then you'll sleep deeply! There is no question that being well rested will take years off your face.
  7. Limit mirror time--most of us look better when we don't know what we look like. The best thing to do before a party, for instance, is to take a deep breath and tell yourself, "Okay, I am going to have a great time." And then don't look in a mirror all night.
  8. Fear will age you faster than cigarettes. Fear of life, of aging, or of change is the one thing that can really paralyze you and take years off your appearance.
