National Night Out

Stephanie Reynolds, Portland Crime Prevention Manager, joined us today to talk about National Night Out, an annual celebration of community and public safety.  It takes place the first Tuesday of every August, and that's August 2nd this year.  Here in Portland, there will be about 170 parties for National Night Out, and about twenty thousand people will participate.  Neighbors get together at parties as small as 20 people, to as large as 500, and enjoy music, food, and visiting with each other and with local public safety officials.  The event builds cohesiveness in neighborhoods, which in turn reduces crime. And, it's a lot of fun!

The "Kickoff Party" will be held on July 26th at City Hall at 5:00pm, and anyone is welcome to join us.  The "Kickoff Party" will be honoring a group of community members who have done exemplary things related to public safety.

Tuesday July 19th is the deadline for party hosts to register their parties with us.  Tuesday July 26th is the day of the Kickoff Party and volunteer recognition.  And Tuesday August 2nd is the actual day of National Night Out.  To register for a party, find a party to attend or just for more information click here.
