Diabetes is a disease that can have devasating health consequences. It has the potentional to rob people, on average, of more than 12 years from their lives and there quality of life can be dramatically reduced during their last 20 years.
However, it is possible to beat the odds! In her new book, "50 Secrets of the Longest Living People with Diabetes" author Sheri Colberg identified and interviewed dozens with diabetes who have lived with the disease for anywhere from 23 to 83 years. The longest-living person with diabetes interviewed for the book is Gladys Dull, who at 90 years old, has diabetes and has had to control it with insulin since 1924.
