Diabetes Awareness

By AM Northwest Staff

It's a disease with potentially devastatingï¾ effects on health and lifestyle, yet up to 35 percent of the people who have diabetes right now don't even know it.

The United Nations has designated today, November 14th, as aï¾ Worldï¾ Diabetesï¾ Day. The purpose is to bring awareness and prevention tips to people before the disease develops. We had endocrinologist, Dr. Andrew Ahmann on our show to tell us more important health information.

Diabetes is fast-growing throughout the world, many people who have it don't know it until there's irreparable damage to their nerves, eyes or hearing. There are two types of diabetes, and people can eat better and exercise to prevent it. Dr. Ahmann will also talk about a diabetes expo in the spring each year in Portland where people can go to find out more about the disease and also the latest developments/products to make their lives easier.
