We chatted with Karen Sheridan about ways to dig yourself out of debt.

These are some of the tips she suggested:

  • Stop digging
  • Know the amount of debt
  • Figure out how much you can pay
  • Pay small amounts off first
  • Pay higher interest rates second
  • Pay at least $10 a month extra
  • Try negotiating with lenders
  • Use a credit card with no balance and pay off monthly
  • Know difference between needs and wants
  • Keep investing if possible
