What travel companies are doing

W Hotels: Has committed to planting 100 trees for every hotel booking through May 26th
Kimpton Hotels: Adopted an EarthCare program ensuring, among other things, that all rooms are cleaned with environmentally-friendly products, that all lobbies serve organic or shade grown coffee and that properties retrofit lighting to ensure only energy efficient bulbs are used

Online Travel Agents

Cruise Lines
Norwegian Cruise Lines: Adopted a vessel speed reduction program (slowing ships to limit air emissions) and recycles cooking oil in ships into bio-diesel

Virgin Atlantic: Plans to increase fuel efficiency by 30% by the year 2020; it recently flew the world’s first commercial aircraft with biofuel
British Airways: Adopted several goals, including sending no waste to landfill by 2010 and reduce on-the-ground engine hours by 10% by 2010

Car rental companies
Hertz: Established a “Green Collection” of fuel-efficient cars (rated at least 28mpg) available for rent

Sandals: Earned “Green Globe Certification” by upgrading the monitoring of water use on all properties, bolstering its recycling of linens, bed spreads and food and promoting green tour promoters
