Firework Safety

Lt. Allen Oswalt of the Portland Fire & Rescue, showed us how to have a safe and legal Forth of July.

Firework safety tips:

Use legal fireworks available at licensed stands and outlets.

Make sure to store fireworks out of the reach of children.

Always read and follow the directions on the label.

Be aware of your pets, they are often firghtened by fireworks.

Always keep a water source handy, like a charged garden hose or bucket of water.

An adult should always light fireworks.

Keep matches and lighters away from children.

Only use fireworks outdoors.

LIght one firework at a time and move away quickly.

Don't throw fireworks.

Don't hold fireworks that are not designed for it.

Be responsible after lighting fireworks.

Soak used fireworks thoroughly in a bucket of water.

Dispose of used fireworks and debris properly.

Never re-light a "dud" firework, wait at least 15 to 20 seconds, and then soak in a bucket of water.
