Enjoying the Holidays

Truly Enjoy the Holidays

Do you ever say after the holidays, "Next year I am going to do less, spend less and enjoy the holidays more."?

If so here are some simple guidelines to assist you on that journey of truly being harmonious and joyful during the coming holiday season.

Let’s first look at what some of meanings of the holidays are: They can be filled with heart inspired spirit, family, gratitude, celebration, renewal, giving and receiving.

FAMILY: Family isn’t limited to your bloodline. Family can be those people that you truly feel close to and or love or those that you want to support-example: being a volunteering. Allow yourself quality time with "family" free of rushing or being tired. Look forward to that time with joyful anticipation. Allow yourself opportunities to be around those that uplift you and those that you can uplift. Now, perhaps in the past family events have caused stress and or pain -this year choose to see something good about each person while spending time with them in a place of compassion and non-judgment and you might actually find yourself having a good time! Keep in mind family traditions can be a wonderful way of honoring the knowledge and ways that your ancestors through love have celebrated and enjoyed abundance, peace and value--free of the complication of guilt or baggage.

GRATITUDE: Gratitude is important all year round. However, at this time of year we are supported emotionally by the holiday of Thanksgiving to be especially grateful. Be grateful for your friends, that you live in America and look around you and inside you and truly value what you have and keep your attention off of what you feel you do not have.

CELEBRATION: Celebrate the joy in your heart; your friends, your job, your health, your spiritual truth and your wealth…stay open to reasons to celebrate. You have the choice to celebrate the simplest moments in your life. Example: celebrate every time you say a kind word to some one. Celebrate every green light your get. Celebrate hearing your favorite song. There are a many reasons to celebrate. Have fun with this!

SPIRIT: For those that are in a spiritual space it is valuable to set aside time to really reflect on what this time of the year means to you and honor that. Allow yourself time to meditate, read or be active in events that support your beliefs.

RENEWAL: The holidays are a time of self renewal. So contrary to popular belief -SLOW DOWN during the holidays. Schedule and or commit yourself to that which only brings you TRUE happiness. Let go of the "guilt" obligations or turn them into a joy before going! Allow yourself more quality time with yourself and those that you cherish and let them know you cherish them. Experience your true freedom by speaking from your heart with love this holiday season.

GIVING AND RECEIVING: Giving is NOT AN OBLIGATION. Giving is about truly flowing love from the heart. In my personal experience the best gift I have EVER received is love. Love does not have to be wrapped, purchased, sized or shipped. It only requires the allowing of it to flow. So, before you buy presents, I offer to you the simplicity of giving love. How does that look and feel in your heart? There are thousand of ways to say I love and I appreciate you within your means.

Receiving is just as important as giving if not more important. Once again, in my personal experience love is the greatest gift I have ever received. Be open to receiving the love that people are offering you! So many of us say no to love all day long. When someone compliments us and we feel we do not deserve it, we immediately feel the need to complement them back without even saying thank you to the person giving the complement. You see the giver feels more complete when the gift is graciously received with a simple THANK YOU.
