Heart Healthy Exercises

Sport Performance Specialist, Alex Molden, joined us today to show us easy ways we can all keep our hearts healthy!

He says that the best exercises are ones that

  1. You enjoy doing
  2. are safe
  3. you will be motivated to do regularly
The more joints that are involved in the exercise the more aerobic (good for your heart) it will be.

You want to work at 75% of your maximum heart rate for maximum heart health results. 
To figure out your target heart rate (that is the rate you need to reach in order for the exercise to be aerobic), subtract your age from 220 (that is your MAXIMUM heart rate) and then multiply that number by .75 (to figure out 75% of your maximum heart rate.)

To figure out what your heart rate is at any particular moment, take your pulse for 6 seconds and multiply the number by 10.
