How to Read Pet Food Labels

We care about the foods we eat but the foods our pets eat are just as important for insuring a long, healthy life for the four-legged member of your family! Andrea Crawford of "Portland Tails" pet magazine shared the following tips:
• You should find about three different foods that you are comfortable with and rotate feeding them to your pets. Different foods offer different nutrients. Animals need variety in their diet just like people. When changing from one food to another, start by adding about ¼ of the new food to the one they are currently eating. Gradually increase the amount every day until they are eating the new food. Take about a week. This will prevent digestive upset.
• Pet food companies are required by law to put their address on their packaging. Most also include their phone number. Feel free to call them to ask questions about their product.
