Ice Bears of the Beaufort
Arthur C. Smith’s documentary Ice Bears of the Beaufort is a 52-minute close-up of polar bears off the northern coast of Alaska. Smith and his wife and film partner, Jennifer, live year-round in an Inupiaq Eskimo community on an island in the Arctic Ocean. Polar bears are a part of their daily lives. Smith says that "while climate change is a long-term, global issue, the point of this film is to spotlight the immediate threat to Alaskan polar bears: industrialization of critical habitat. This is a real-time national issue. It’s happening now, and it’s elective. We can choose not to do this (destroy their habitat)." For more information click here. |
