Firework Safety Tips

Lt. Allen Oswalt of Portland Fire and Rescue showed us which fireworks are considered legal in Oregon and which could cost you a ticket.

 Firework safety tips:

  • Use legal fireworks available at licensed stands and outlets.
  • Make sure to store fireworks out of the reach of children.
  • Always read and follow the directions on the label.
  • Always keep a water source handy, like a charged garden hose or bucket of water.
  • An adult should always light fireworks.
  • Keep matches and lighters away from children.
  • Only use fireworks outdoors.
  • Light one firework at a time and move away quickly.
  • Don't throw fireworks.
  • Don't hold fireworks that are not designed for it.
  • Be responsible after lighting fireworks.
  • Soak used fireworks thoroughly in a bucket of water.
  • Dispose of used fireworks and debris properly.
  • Never re-light a "dud" firework, wait at least 15 to 20 seconds, and then soak in a bucket of water.
