7 Steps to Creating a Successful Blog

Today there are more than 3.9 million women in the United States writing “mom” blogs,” successfully leveraging social media to communicate about their lives and loves—and their social and political influence reaches far beyond the confines of the playground.

Kate Hopper, an award-winning writer herself,  has spent nearly a decade teaching women to write down the bones of motherhood. In her new book, Use Your Words: A Writing Guide for Mothers, she encourages mothers to write the stories they need to write, whether their goal is to blog, publish magazine articles, or pen the next blockbuster memoir.

Kate joined us to share a few of her tips for creating a successful blog:

  1. Be clear about why you want to blog/purpose of your blog
  2. Decide how private you want your blog to be & how much personal information you’d like to share
  3. Choose a blogging platform and blog design
  4. Write two-three posts and get them up before you begin promoting your blog
  5. Take time writing and proofreading your posts
  6. Comment on other blogs to create a community and increase traffic to your site.
  7. Have fun!
