How to Have a Successful Home Based Business
By AMNW Intern
Diane Dennis Certified Life Transition Coach had great advice for starting a home based business. With unemployment over 11 percent, many out of work adults are going in business for themselves. The most cost effective way to do this is to have a home based business: · Tax Advantages · Low Overhead · Minimal Commute · Low wardrobe costs :) 1. Get to know your customer A. Write a profile of your customer (demographic, income, hobbies) B. The more you know about your customer the more likely your marketing strategy will work. Example: If you are selling products for children, your target market is adult parents. Craft messages that fit that demographic. C. Where does your customer shop, live, eat? What do they read? 2. Treat your business like a business A. Show up for work on time B. Stay until you are finished C. Get advice from attorneys, accountants, bankers D. Use free resources (small business association has mentoring programs) 3. Stay up on the latest technology or education in your field A. Take classes (many online teleconferences and seminars are free) B. Interview successful people in your business category C. Be careful with internet commerce: example: Identity Theft 4. You are your best asset A. Become an expert in the field B. Speaking engagements C. Develop writing skills—so much communication is done online D. Learn training techniques.
