Balance Training Basics

From senior citizens to elite athletes, it's important for everyone to work on their balance.  Fitness Expert, Beth Oliver, joined us today to tell us why we need to train our balance -- everyday!

Balance training is important for everyone from a senior citizen to a pro athlete. 

Balance training helps to strengthen the joints, which keeps your body stable and helps reduce the possibility of falling, especially as you age. 

Balance also improves proprioception, which is basically your brain’s ability to organize itself in space. 
    For a senior citizen this might mean standing up without getting dizzy. 
    For an Olympic gymnast it means knowing when to “un-tuck” from a flip.

Lots of things could affect your balance including; changes in your vision, ear infections, medications and low blood pressure.
