KATU has teamed up with Friends of the Children and Safeway to provide healthy snacks for children all summer long. Friends of the Children Executive Director Terri Sorensen, along with Professional Mentor Andrey Jackson, joined us today to tell us how we can help.

Many of our kids receive free or reduced-cost lunch while they are in school, and the summers can be very hard on them when they don’t have access to that nutritious meal every day. Friends of the Children  has a strong focus on helping kids develop healthy lifestyles through physical activity and healthy eating.

• Safeway’s Drive, Drop, and Donate snack drive is coming up on Friday, June 15 – Sunday, June 17. 
• We are asking community to go to one of the four Safeway stores and donate healthy, non-perishable snacks like trail mix, dried fruit, and nuts that will give our kids energy all summer.
