What does sexy feel like? It’s more than just putting on a little black dress or a studly suit. At the core of your sexy self is a wellspring of positive feelings, including confidence, vitality, and authenticity, as well as energy, aliveness, and gusto. Sexy is all about how you feel, how you act, how you look, how you live. Elizabeth Somer, registered dietitian and author of the new book, Eat Your Way to Sexy, shared how to tweak our diets to improve our passions!

1. You say you that by changing some diet habits, we can reboot our lusty selves?
Yes! Inside that sexy self, there is a whole lot of circuitry and circulation going on. For you to feel really sultry, powerful, alive requires a fine-tuned brain that sends messages quickly and freely, a healthy heart that pumps blood efficiently and easily, and clear and elastic blood vessels that effortlessly move blood and oxygen throughout your body, from head to sex organs. The better that circuitry and circulation work, the more energetic you feel and the better lover you will be. The building blocks and assembly-line workers for those well-revved systems come directly and only from your diet. Just as you wouldn’t put sawdust into your gas tank and expect your car to run right, eat junk and you’ll feel like junk. Eat, move, and live right and you will be amazed how strong, confident, energized, and sharp you are.

To give yourself some space, you need to eat regularly throughout the day, starting with breakfast. 4. How about lunch. What should we eat to feel lustier here?
As you focus on real, authentic foods, make sure at least half the place is colorful fruits and vegetables, which are packed with antioxidants that reduce inflammation associated with heart disease, dementia, and a loss of sex drive. This is an easy one, just include 2 servings of fruits or vegetables at every meal and one at every snack. Americans are averaging only 3 servings a day, we need to triple that. Make it easy on yourself. Eat Your Way to Sexy doesn’t have to take time. Lunch should be light and low-fat, so just open up a bag of salad greens, add some left-over chicken breast strips, or black beans and a little light salad dressing for an instant meal that reduces inflammation and loads the plate with an Antioxidant Orgy.
5. How can we feed our #1 sex organ?
That #1 sex organ is your brain, where imagination and desire are fueled. To think clearly and passionately you need to reduce inflammation in your circuitry and circulation and then fuel your brain with the building blocks it needs to function at top speed. People who get what I call in the book “Wet and Wild at least 2X a week” by including fatty fish, such as salmon, to the menu also are the ones who are up to 70% less likely to develop dementia and are at much lower risk for depression. Again, make this easy on yourself. Broil a salmon fillet, steam some broccoli, and serve with instant brown rice for a dinner that took less than 15 minutes to prepare.
5. One of your S Ex Y Diet tips is to give yourself some space. What Does this mean?
To boost the feel-good chemical in your brain, serotonin, you need to spread your food intake out evening throughout the day and have a G-spot snack either mid-afternoon or after dinner. The “G” stands for grains. Whole grains. Some air-popped popcorn or a few graham crackers will boost levels of serotonin, which has a relaxing and mood-boosting effect. It only takes 30 grams of carbs to get the effect, so this is not a licence to binge on a truck-load of carbs! If you need to feel energized mid-day, have a Quicky Snack with has a bit of protein, such as train mix or cheese with crackers and fruit, which will block serotonin, but raise the energizing brain chemical, dopamine.
6. You say that “taking the pill” is important, too. What “pill” do you mean?
Few people eat perfectly every day. So on the days when you fudge the rules a bit, take a moderate-dose Multi, a Calcium & magnesium supplement, and an omega-3 DHA.
