Fun Uses for The Mighty Mason Jar

Marnie Hanel is a founding member of The Portland Picnic Society and stopped by to show us her favorite uses for the might mason jar.  All of her ideas are perfect for picnics!

The Mighty Mason Jar
The Portland Picnic Society has never hosted an event that did not feature at least one Mason jar. Inexpensive, durable, and oven-safe, a Mason jar is a picnic workhorse. We use them in the traditional way—for pickles and jam—but we also take advantage of their versatility with creative uses such as layered salads, sipping cups, and miniature pies. In the video above, we demonstrate how to layer salad into a European canning jar, and how to create a spill-resistant sipping cup. We also share one of the many desserts we've made in oven-safe jelly jars—at just 4 ounces, each jar is the perfect portion for a mini pie or pudding. (Unless you're Dave; he requires five.)
