Pet Expert Cheryl Hansen had advice for choosing the pet that's right for your family.

*First question to ask--WHY are you considering adding a pet to your household?

*Can you AFFORD a pet?   No such thing as a FREE dog or cat.

*What TYPE of pet is your best choice?  Factors to consider include living situation, tolerance for shedding, energy level, temperament , do homework, breed research, talk to pet owners/breeders
AKC is a good place to start.

*WHERE TO LOOK for a pet?  Pet Finder is a great place to find a variety of adoptable pets.

*How to EVALUATE a potential pet?  Tips for approaching a potential pet, how to interact, what to look for, mini-tests
