Providence Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society are working on one of the biggest research projects ever – a groundbreaking study that will have an enormous impact on our ability to prevent cancer.

The goal is to sign up 300,000 men and women nationwide, ages 30 to 65, who have never had cancer (people may have had basal or squamous skin cancer and still participate).

By studying individuals over the course of 20 to 30 years, researchers will better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.

To participate:

• Interested people will register, make an appointment at one of 10 local sites, and fill out an online comprehensive survey that will take 45 to 60 minutes.
• At the appointment, which will take about 30 minutes, participants will complete a brief survey, sign a consent form, have their waist measures and provide a small blood sample.
• Following enrollment, participants will receive mailed surveys at home every few years to update their information, and will receive annual study newsletters to update them on the research.
