Stunning sunrise greets Seattle's Thanksgiving morning

On a day to give thanks, we can be thankful that both Ryan Verwest and YouNews contributor "troxa41622511086" had a great view of Mt. Rainier and had their cameras handy. (At nearly the same time, apparently!)
Mt. Rainier was the canvas for an incredible sunrise, complete with multi-stacked lenticular clouds and, if you look atop the clouds, you can see some of Rainier's own shadow being cast on the clouds.
There are even more photos from other photographers in the gallery to the left.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Just beautiful...Â
@margay1 Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning. A few months on the ocean made this perfectly clear...
@boned  @margay1 What a wake up call if at sea, however this was inland and is very stunning view of the sunrise in Seattle...better set down and take another observation.
However the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets that I have seen are at sea...off shore.
Â
Zero light problems from every corner of the earth...think about where you live can you even see the stars enough to id them at night ?
@yaquina Why? It works inland as well during all my years. If memory serves, it rained all over the PNW on Thanksgiving, but I could be wrong...
to clarify these are clouds...not ash plumes, right?
@Phuzz Yes, they call these lenticular clouds.

Thanks for the term. I could nto recall what they were called.

Â
Yes. It is actually a seasonal thing that happens year around but it is most spectacular this time of year because of Seattle's proximity to Rainier and where the sun rises.
Â
If you live in Battleground or someplace near there, Hood does something similar but it is not as large so the effect is not as grandiose.
Â
Â
This is the very reason why I love the PNW.
Beautiful!
