BEAVERTON, Ore. – A police officer was involved in a shooting near Southwest 157th Avenue and Bridle Hills Drive Tuesday afternoon, according to Beaverton police.

Police responded to a disturbance call at about 1:40 p.m. and were confronted by 28-year-old Herbert Rabago, who was armed with a knife, said Beaverton police spokesman Mike Rowe.

Rabago refused to follow the officer's commands and charged at him, police said. That's when the officer shot Rabago.

Rabago was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital. Rowe said Rabago's injuries were not life-threatening.

Rowe said no one else, including Beaverton police officers, was injured during the incident.

The officer was identified as Jeremy Shaw, a 10-year-veteran. Shaw is currently on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

Rowe said charges against Rabago are likely.
