PORTLAND, Ore. – Police tracked down the man they said used a skateboard to attack a 70-year-old employee outside the Portland Outdoor Store back in July.

Daniel Dorson, 18, was arrested Thursday in Humboldt County, Calif., according to a Portland police spokesman.

Investigators said Dorson hit Larry Allen over the head with a skateboard while Allen was hosing off a sidewalk outside the Portland Outdoor Store. Allen had worked at the store for 35 years.

The attack happened on the afternoon of July 15.

Witnesses told police that a group of “street kids” attacked Allen and they initially did not have any suspects.

Over the next few months investigators released a sketch of the suspect, then in September they identified Dorson and released his picture to the media.

Investigators said they nabbed him on Thursday in California. He is being held in a jail there until he can be extradited back to Oregon, police said.

Dorson was adopted as a boy by his maternal grandmother, Cathy Dorson. She says he has lived in the Portland area for a decade and been a constant problem. Dorson says she is pleased with the teen's arrest because he's off the streets and won't hurt anyone.
