PORTLAND, Ore. - Our city's biggest celebration of the year - the Portland Rose Festival - is about to kick off for the Memorial Day weekend.
CityFair opens at 5 p.m. Friday at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. It'll be followed by a fireworks show at 10 p.m and as always, there will be plenty of elephant ears, fun rides, musical acts and lots more to keep you entertained.
Admission is free on Thursdays (May 30 and June 6). Regular admission is $7 for those 7 and under and free for those 6 and under. Members of the military and veterans get in for free with a valid military ID.
You can also purchase a Rose Festival Souvenir Pin for $10 that will get you in for free during the entire Rose Festival. You can find the pins at Fred Meyer stores, the Rose Garden Store and the Portland Rose Festival Foundation office. Calendar of events
Now of course, it wouldn't be Rose Festival if the weather wasn't cooperating - we are in for a soggy start this year. Check the weather forecast
The annual festival dates back to 1907 and during the first years of the event it was known by several names - Rose Carnival, Rose Show, Rose Fete, Rose Fiesta and Feast of Roses. It got its current name after a group of businessmen formally organized a Rose Festival Association to finance the event.
KATU will be live at the Portland Rose Festival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday. Tune in if you're at home or stop by and say hello if you're at Waterfront Park!
