Fire crews battle two Portland house fires

PORTLAND, Ore. – Firefighters battled two house fires at the same time early Thursday morning in Portland.

High winds created issues for crews at both fires, Portland Fire and Rescue spokesman Lt. Rich Chatman said.

Crews first responded to a fire at 15908 S.E. Alder Street. Firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames when they arrived around 1: 30 a.m.

“Fire crews had some complicating issues with unusually high winds forcing air into the structure and increasing the rapid spread of fire throughout the home,” said Chatman in a news release.

Firefighters knocked down the flames from outside the home. They extinguished the fire a short time later.

The cause is under investigation. No one was hurt.

Meanwhile, fire crews responded to another house fire on N.E. Mallory Avenue at the same time. Chatman said crews found “extreme clutter” inside the home while fighting the fire.

There were three people inside the home when the fire started. They all escaped, but one person was taken to a hospital. Chatman said the person’s injuries were fire-related.

It’s unclear what caused the fire.
