VANCOUVER, Wash. – A wanted suspect in a Jackson County murder was caught Saturday morning at a Vancouver grocery store.

Authorities were looking for Othon Robert Campos, Jr., 41, of Medford, in the Portland and Vancouver areas earlier this week. Campos is a suspect in the murder of Frank Ronald Damiano, 62, of Ashland, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

U.S. Marshalls took Campos into custody at the St. John's IGA grocery store in Vancouver Saturday morning.

"There was like five cars formed around him, all undercover, and I see a gun in the air and a guy pressed against the car," said Sydney Trammell, who witnessed the arrest. "And then his, there's one lady crying in the corner with him."

The U.S. Marshalls took Campos to the Clark County Jail, where he’ll wait to be taken back to Jackson County.

Campos was indicted by a Jackson County grand jury on the several charges including aggravated felony murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of robbery in the first degree and burglary in the first degree.

KATU spoke with a man named Richard, whose wife once lived with Campos in Portland.

Richard's wife told him that Campos knocked on their door last Saturday.

"I find out it was him," said Richard, who didn't want to give his last name. "He was trying to get a ride somewhere to see his girlfriend and she gave him a ride to Vancouver."

Richard says now he and his wife are worried about their safety.

"Her old demeanor changed. She's totally in shock. I never thought he'd do something like that," Richard said. "I'm sad somebody had to die for this guy to get caught."

A second suspect in the murder, Merlin Elmo Bound III, was arrested in Jackson County on Tuesday.
