On Christmas night a thief stole a cellphone from a car in Redmond, Ore. This wasn't just any cracked iPhone; it once belonged to Jessie Doyle Cavett, who was killed in Gresham in October.
It had become one of the few ways Cavett's 5-year-old daughter, Peyton, had to remember the mother she saw shot and killed in their home. Police say Cavett's estranged husband, 36-year-old Joshua Cavett, murdered her.
"For Christmas, Peyton wanted to go see mommy. ... She feels closer to her mom when she has her pictures," Peyton's father, Brian Kinney, told SalemNews.com. "Some were backed up, but not all, and it is a great loss to the family."
Cavett's family told KATU they are working with police in Redmond but were not ready at this time to speak on camera.
