Gresham police search for suspect in road rage stabbing

GRESHAM, Ore. – Gresham police are looking for a man who stabbed a truck driver during a fight in the street near Mount Hood Community College last month.

It happened on Oct. 22 around 7:30 p.m., according to police. Butch Smith, 39, was driving his 18-wheeler on NE Kane Drive near Stark Street when a man driving a silver or tan sedan pulled in front of his truck and blocked it.

The suspect got out of his car, climbed up to Smith’s window and punched him in the face, police said. Smith opened his door, knocking the man to the ground. He got out of his car and began to fight the suspect in the street.

Police said the suspect stabbed Smith in his left side and drove away from the scene.

Smith was treated and released from a hospital.

The suspect is described as a white man with brown hair who is about 5’10’’ tall and 190 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a baseball hat.

Detectives believe several vehicles drove by the fight as it was happening. They would like to speak with witnesses or anyone who has information about what happened between Smith and the suspect.
