Pit bull named 'Clyde' euthanized following attack on 3-year-old girl

HAZEL DELL, Wash. - A pit bull that bit a toddler in the face was euthanized on Thursday.

Clyde had been under quarantine at the Southwest Washington Humane Society after he attacked 3-year-old Janessa Sutterfield earlier this month at a duplex in the 3700 block of Northeast 80th Street in Hazel Dell.

We got in contact with Clyde's owner last week via Facebook and e-mail. She sent us the following message:

"Clyde has been a very good dog for the seven years of his life. I paid a thousand dollars to train that dog and thousands more on surgeries for the dog. It was all bad circumstance and it led to pain and tragedy for many so needlessly. He was loved by many and will be missed. I wish things could have gone differently for all involved."

According to Clark County Animal Control, the dog did not show any signs of rabies, which means the little girl will not need shots.

The dog's owner elected to have the dog put down following what happened.
