LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – Four people escaped a fire at a Lake Oswego condo Monday morning, firefighters said.
It happened off Greenridge Court, according to a tweet from Lake Oswego Fire. Firefighters initially reported that one person was injured, but later said no one was hurt.
According to Deputy Fire Marshal Gert Zoutendijk, a woman called 9-1-1 at 4:24 a.m. to report a fire was blocking the exit for four people.
Fire crews arrived and helped rescue Andrew Wong and his girlfriend, along with the Wong's grandparents who were asleep and unaware of the fire. Wong said a noise woke him up and he found the fire when he went to investigate.
"This could have resulted in a very sad situation had Wong not woken up," said Zoutendijk. "The only smoke alarm in the condo had been taken down and was the main reason the grandparents did not wake up."
The fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damage. It’s unclear what caused the fire.
