Police search for cougar near Lake Oswego school

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – Following several reported cougar sightings in Lake Oswego over the last several days, an elementary school was placed in “lock-in” Monday afternoon while police searched for a cougar in a tree.

The lock-in was lifted at around 2:20 p.m. Police did not find a cougar near the school.

The Lake Oswego school district tweeted that all students at Westridge Elementary School were safe and advised parents not to go to the school.

Sgt. Tom Hamann told KATU that officers did not find any evidence of a cougar in a tree, but they asked the school to keep students inside while they searched the area.

Earlier Monday, Lake Oswego police said there were reported cougar sightings “in the last several days” near Lakeridge Junior High School, near the intersection of Jean Road and Southwest Central Avenue.
