MILWAUKIE, Ore. – An 11-year-old boy told police that he set a piece of toilet paper and then a paper towel dispenser on fire with a lighter in a bathroom at Linwood Elementary School on Monday.

The sprinkler system quickly doused the flames but not before causing between $5,000 and $10,000 in damage to the bathroom, firefighters said.

The boy was at the school for an after-school program.

The school’s fire alarms sounded and everyone got out of the building safely. There were no injuries.

Officials said the results of the police investigation will be handed over to the Clackamas County Juvenile Department to determine whether any charges will be filed.
