PORTLAND, Ore. - Here's a quiz for you - what looks a lot like beer but is actually fermented more like wine?

If you said 'cider,' you're right. And you've probably noticed that it's creeping into the beer scene here in Portland.

In fact, one of Portland's biggest beer fans (he was actually the winner of a Timber's Army Home Brew Contest) is ditching the hops to try his hand at 'garage cidery.' He even got enough people excited about the idea that he was able to raise about $20,000 to get started.

Abram Goldman-Armstrong is calling his new brew 'Cider Riot!'

Goldman-Armstrong loves his ciders - he grew up on an orchard in Oregon and has actually been making it for years. He always wanted to share it with others, so he started a Kickstarter campaign to get his dream off the ground.

The plan worked and now he has enough money to pay for the equipment and costs associated with starting up a cidery. His plan is to ditch his day job and start making cider full time - maybe even move into a bigger space in a couple of years.

If you want to try his cider, you'll have to wait a few months - next May is the goal date for the launch. But you can still help Cider Riot! on Kickstarter until 8 a.m. on Thursday.
