PORTLAND, Ore. – The bomb squad was at Portland International Airport Tuesday night after someone found an unattended backpack in the terminal.

Police searched it and it appeared to not be a threat.

The backpack was sitting on a bench near the TriMet station on the lower level of the concourse. Officials closed the interior arrival lanes shortly before 10 p.m. as the Metropolitan Explosive Unit investigated.

A member of the bomb squad eventually approached the backpack just before 11 p.m., opened it and took out items that included a magazine, a book, what appeared to be a prescription medicine bottle and other items. After searching it, he yelled "All clear!"

Police took pictures of the contents of the backpack.

The closure of that section of the terminal caused a traffic backup and shuttles transported Red Line MAX passengers.

No flights were affected.
