$1,000 reward offered for arrest in St. Johns homicide

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Crime Stoppers of Oregon is asking for a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who fatally shot a man Monday in the St. Johns neighborhood.

The homicide led to nearby George Middle School and Roosevelt High School both being locked down as police officers searched for suspects who fled the scene, police and school officials said.

The shooting was reported at about 2 p.m. Monday in the 9500 block of North Burr Avenue. Officers found 33-year-old Donte Alwakeel Young dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers arrived and fanned out in the neighborhood looking for the suspects. They brought in a K-9 unit but did not find any suspects.

Investigators believe a large group fled before police arrived, police said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
