PORTLAND, Ore. - A small kitchen fire became a huge problem for some people with special needs.
The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in an apartment complex in the 900 block of Northwest Kearney Street.
Firefighters had to force open the door to rescue the two men and a dog.
One of the men suffered burns and had injuries from inhaled smoke. The other man only suffered from smoke inhalation.
They were both taken to the hospital. Firefighters said the men were between the ages of 40 and 50.
KATU News learned that one of the men is blind and the dog is a service dog. The animal is fine, firefighters said.
Firefighters were able to keep the flames confined to the kitchen area. However, there is water damage to a few of the apartments below.
