PORTLAND, Ore. – Windy and dry weather kept fire crews busy around the Portland area Sunday.

In Northwest Portland, a tree fell onto power lines and sparked small brush fires along Skyline Boulevard. The power line ignited dry brush on both sides of the road, firefighters said.

It happened in the 400 block of Skyline, north of West Burnside Road, at around 11 a.m.

"We heard a popping sound," said neighbor Steve Tighe. "And then, we looked up here, you see either flames or flashing light."

Fire crews had to call in extra crews and trucks to pump water uphill to the site.

Nearby homes lost power after the tree fell. No homes were damaged and no one was hurt, firefighters said.
