Man dies in crash on Highway 99E south of Oregon City

OREGON CITY, Ore. – One man died in a crash on Highway 99E near Oregon City on Sunday evening, state police said.

Police said Kris Kuykendall, a 52-year-old man from Canby, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred about two miles south of Oregon City just before 5 p.m.

Police said Kuykendall was driving north on the highway when his car crossed the center line. They said it sideswiped two cars before it collided with a semi truck pulling a trailer.

The impact was so violent it ruptured one of the truck's diesel tanks, broke two mounting brackets and ejected the Suzuki's engine from the engine compartment.

The driver of one of the cars went to the hospital to be checked out, but nobody else was hurt.

About 40 gallons of diesel spilled, but were later cleaned up.

It's unclear why Kuykendall drove into the oncoming lane.

All of the involved drivers cooperated with investigators, police said.
