PORTLAND, Ore. - A reserve police officer who was killed in the line of duty will be remembered today by those who knew him, and by a community that is mourning the loss of one of their own.

A Celebration of Life for Officer Rob Libke is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The public is welcome to attend; doors will open at noon.

A motorcade procession prior to the service is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. at Clackamas Community College. The public will not be allowed to participate, but is encouraged to view the procession from vantage points along the route.

Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes or have patience while the procession passes by. There will also be some delays for bus and MAX riders. The City of Oregon City has also closed City Hall for the day to honor Libke. All other city buildings will remain open as usual.

The Back Story

Officer Rob Libke, 41, was shot in the face Nov. 3 while responding to a house fire. He initially survived the shooting, but later died at the hospital.

Libke had been a reserve officer for the Oregon City Police Department since 2009. Reserve officers are volunteers who help patrol officers.

A state panel decided last week that Libke's wife, who is pregnant, would get financial support. The money will come from a special fund dedicated to help when officers are killed in the line of duty.

The suspect, 88-year-old Lawrence Cambra, was shot at the scene during a confrontation with SWAT officers. He then shot himself in the chest, ending his life.

Cambra was a retired federal government employee who worked on Navy submarines. Court records show he had a history of domestic violence involving a 69-year-old woman who used to live with him.
