PORTLAND, Ore. - TriMet will be launching its mobile ticketing app this week, which will allow folks to buy a bus or a MAX ticket from their Smartphone.

The app, which will be released Wednesday, will be available for both iPhones and Android devices. It will allow you to purchase an e-ticket right on your phone and then you simply show the ticket on the screen to a bus driver or fare inspector on a MAX train.

"The TriMet Tickets app is just one of the steps we're taking to improve the experience for our riders wherever and whenever possible," said TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane. "We're excited to put this mobile ticket in the palm of their hands and make riding easier."

To celebrate, TriMet is inviting riders to a launch party on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Portland State University's Urban Center Plaza (located on Southwest Montgomery between 5th and 6th Avenues).

TriMet staff, the app developers and beta testers will be on hand to help folks download the app and get started. There will be refreshments and music by Martin Zarzar of Pink Martini fame.
