KEIZER, Ore. – Keizer police and Oregon State Police are investigating the armed robbery of an armored truck employee Tuesday.

The Brink’s truck employee was robbed at a former Roth’s grocery store at 5013 River N., which is at the Schoolhouse Square, at about 12:30 p.m.

According to Keizer police Capt. Jeff Kuhns, one of the two Brink's employee with the truck was dropping off money and servicing an ATM at the now shuttered Roth's. The employee was confronted by an armed man inside.

The employee made his way into a room, barricaded himself into the room, locked it and "sheltered in place," Kuhns said.

The employee then called his co-worker for help and said he had been robbed by an armed suspect. The SWAT team showed up, established communication with the Brink's employee, and got him out of the building.

The suspect is still on the loose. Kuhns said he was described as being about 5-foot-11 and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. He was armed with a handgun.

Police searched the buildings but couldn't find the suspect.

Kuhns said he couldn't say what, if anything, the suspect took from the employee.

McNary High School was placed in lockdown at about 1:40 p.m. as police searched for the armed suspect nearby, the school’s principal told parents in a statement. The lockdown was lifted not long before 4 p.m.

Nicole Moul, an owner at nearby Salon 124, said police had been escorting customers in as needed.

"Lots of officers running around with all sorts of weapons," she said.
