SALEM, Ore. – Two people were taken to a hospital after several large trees fell onto Highway 22 east of Salem Monday morning.
According to the Marion County Fire district, downed trees caused at least two crashes at the scene.
State police said Jorge Navarro-Valadez, 56, of Salem, was eastbound on the highway when he collided with a large tree that fell across the road and blocked both lanes. Medics took Navarro-Valadez to a hospital. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.
High winds and heavy rain caused several trees to fall across Highway 22, police said. One tree that fell was around five feet in diameter.
The Marion County Fire district said another person was taken to a hospital after a second crash on Highway 22.
The highway was reopened to traffic at 6:20 a.m.
