Crews get Sherwood fire under control before it spreads

SHERWOOD, Ore. – A house in Sherwood was badly damaged, but quick work by firefighters averted what could’ve been an uglier scene on Saturday afternoon.

A vacant one-story house was in flames when Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue arrived at 12:20 p.m.

Firefighters focused their effort on keeping the flames from spreading because the house was already fully engulfed.

Making matters more nerve-wracking were a large propane tank near the house and an approaching train nearby.

A large amount of smoke was blowing across the tracks, so crews quickly told the railroad about the fire, closed down SW Tonquin Rd. and went to work.

Further complicating matters were low-hanging power lines that were involved in the fire.

The fire was under control within a half hour.
